Jadon's Ninjago Birthday

This week is going to be party week over here at Candy & Cake.  I have been a very bad blogger and have not been here much and in doing so missed sharing a few parties we had a few months back.  So bear with me as I fill you all in on what I have been up to while I was away.
First up this week is my sons' Ninjago birthday that we celebrated back in the beginning of March.  As with a lot of boys lately, he is in love with Ninjago!  I have to admit they are pretty cute and I have to confess I have enjoyed watching the episodes on Teletoon here in Canada.  Jadon was set on having a Ninjago party and said he HAD to have Jay {the blue ninja} on the top of the cake.

The cake was a vanilla cake infused with fresh blueberries and filled with peanut butter buttercream.  I have to admit it wasn't my favorite..but he loved it!

When we were planning the party I had only a few options on etsy for ninjago printables and now I see there is a ton of options.  I can't remember the name of the Etsy shop where I found the printables.  I also learned a little of origami with the ninja stars that we made and placed on each plate.  As always, Green Munch is my perfect place to find party goods such as paper straws.

I looked high and low for ninja swords and could not find them anywhere so I whipped up these handmade ninja swords.  They are just newspaper rolled up with tinfoil wrapped over top and then black duck tape for the handle.  The kids seemed to love them although they were demolished by the end of the party.  We also had strips of black fabric for ninja headbands for all of the kids.

Thanks again to my sister for the snapshots of his party!

Ava's First Birthday: Boho Chic Sneek Peek

{Image courtesy Juli Labrecque Photography}
My youngest daughter just turned one this past weekend and we celebrated with a boho-chic themed party inspired by her nursery of the same theme.
I was going to wait until I get all of the snapshots from the photographer but I just couldn't wait when she sent me this sweet collage pic last nite!  She was such a wonderful photographer...I highly recommend her!
Anyways, here's a sneek peek...

New Designs: Bella's Engagement Ring Cupcake Topper

In anticipation for the new installment in the Twilight series, Breaking Dawn Part 1 this Friday, I created this little cupcake topper to replicate Bella's engagement ring. Was so fun to make and so excited to see the movie this weekend! Any other Twihards out there?

A Unicorn Themed Tea Party

This past weekend my oldest daughter (wow—that still sounds so new to me!) celebrated her 7th birthday with a few of her closest friends. Once again Janelle requested tutus (she still loves to dress up) and ordered some premade tutus from Halo Heaven for all of the girls to dress up and take home as favors. We quickly came up with a pink and gold color scheme and went with it…so fitting too that Janelle’s favorite unicorn is Goldalicious. Fun and games were introduced by pin the tail on the unicorn and followed by unicorn races. Then the girls glittered unicorn horns which were unicorn horn shaped seashells that I picked up very inexpensively at the Dollar Store. The girls then refreshed themselves with a spot of tea and some sweets and treats from the dessert table. I couldn’t believe how enamored they were over the table and the cake. So sweet! We included brownie pops (highly recommend), edible image unicorn cookies, cupcakes, raspberry lemon tea sandwiches made from pound cake, and of course, chocolate covered oreos. Each guest was sent home with their own hair accessory that I made a few months before the party as well as a unicorn necklace that I found on Ebay to go along with their tutus.
Thanks to Print Your Heart Out for the perfect invitations in coordinating invitations for the party as well as custom unicorn party tags used for the cookies and labels for the dessert table. They were the perfect addition to the party! Thank you to Modern Frills for creating a custom unicorn silhouette tee for Janelle’s special day! A big thank you to Sheila Anderson Photography for the great snapshots of the party! They turned out gorgeous!

Some News!

Hello friends!

I know posts have been pretty sparse for the past few months and there is reason for that.
On August 12th we welcomed a baby girl to our family and have been pretty busy getting used to having a little one around again.
She is truly a blessing and I could not keep quiet about our new addition any longer.
So I introduce you to our baby daughter,
