This past weekend was a whirlwind but I am now back and sharing with you my Canada Day dessert table from our Canada Day BBQ last Thursday. It was a busy weekend comprising of making a cake for my grandmother's 90th birthday, Canada Day and a trip all in one weekend. I cannot believe it is Monday already, where did the time go? How was your weekend and celebrations?

The cake topper is all hand sculpted sugar roses and calla lilies.
The cake was a vanilla cake with strawberry buttercream filling.
I created this cake for my Mom for Mother's Day. My love of baking and creating cakes is traced back to my childhood and baking with my mother (who I believe is the best cook in the world). Her baking is out of this world! We always say my mom should open up her own restaurant. She has yet to do so.
This cake was my way of saying thanks for all she has done. Thank you, Mom, I love you!

I love getting original and fun requests and this one was one of them! I made this cake last week for my brother-in-law's birthday. My sister and her husband requested a cake of a house being framed and a little figure working on the house. This one was so fitting as this is his profession. It was a vanilla cake with banana buttercream filling. Sorry, again, for the poor pictures, I ran out of time to take some better ones.

Tissue paper pom poms have been popping everywhere in party and room decor and are a great way to add color to a room. Why buy these lovely pom poms premade when you can easily make these in your own home and are more economical!
Supplies Needed
24-gauge white cloth-covered floral wire.
8 sheets of tissue paper (this will make one tissue paper pom pom)
ruler
scissors
pencil
ribbon or clear thread for hanging pom pom
Directions
1. Stack eight sheets of tissue. Make 1 1/2-inchwide accordion folds, creasing with each fold.
2. Fold an 18-inch piece of floral wire in half, and slip over center of folded tissue; twist. With scissors, trim ends of tissue into rounded or pointy shapes.
3. Separate layers, pulling away from center one at a time.
4. Tie a length of ribbon or clear thread to floral wire for hanging.
